Finding Wonderland has a Summber Blog Blast Tour post with Varian Johnson, whose day job is civil engineer.
I've known a number of civil engineers over the years. I don't know where they got the reputation for being mild-mannered. In my experience, these people are wild. In a very subtle way.

I majored in Civil Engineering as an undergrad, and worked in the field for a couple of years before going to grad school in a slightly different field. Not sure if I'm wild, but definitely subtle.
I was aware of your c.e. background. It gives you a great deal of status in my family, by the way, because we have c.e. connections.
Mainly I was teasing Varian about his red tie and white shirt. He looks like the Clark Kent of civil engineering.
I'm pretty sure he's fairly subtly wild.
They all are.
